Essay Mate is a free ChatGPT plugin created by Adib Hasan to help high school students improve their college application essays. There are no payments, purchases, or paid upgrades from Essay Mate. Access through ChatGPT is subject to OpenAI’s availability, account requirements, and any applicable plan limits.

How to use it

1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT on the web (or open Plugins in the desktop app), and search for Essay Mate.
2. Open its details and select the + button to install it.
3. Start a new chat, type @Essay Mate, and select the plugin from the menu.
4. Share your draft and the essay prompt, or ask for help brainstorming. Include the word limit if there is one.

For example: “Help me improve this college application essay while keeping my own voice. The prompt is … and the word limit is 650.”

Feedback is generated by AI, not personally reviewed by Adib. Ratings are writing feedback, not predictions of admission chances.

For questions, problems, or privacy requests, email essaymate@googlegroups.com. This Google Group is for support from Adib or designated support members. Please describe the issue without sending your full essay or unnecessary personal information.

Essays and conversations. Essay Mate runs within ChatGPT. Its current plugin package consists of instructions and does not include an external API integration or a developer-operated essay-processing server. OpenAI processes your conversations under its Privacy Policy; its retention and data-use practices depend on the applicable service and your settings. Manage ChatGPT data through the controls OpenAI provides.

Developer data practices. Adib does not independently receive, collect, store, sell, or share essays or conversations submitted through Essay Mate. If you voluntarily send an essay or other information directly to Adib, it is handled as a support communication instead.

Support communications. If you contact the support Google Group, your email address and message are used only to respond to and resolve your support or privacy request. Adib or designated support members may read and respond to these messages. Your address is not collected for marketing, added to a separate mailing list, sold, or used for unrelated purposes. Correspondence may remain in the group’s message history and recipients’ inboxes until deleted, depending on their settings. To request deletion of support correspondence held by Adib or the support team, email essaymate@googlegroups.com. Google also processes messages as the provider of Google Groups, under its own privacy practices.

This website. This page provides information and links; it does not collect essays or require an email signup. The site’s analytics script is disabled on this page. Hosting and services that deliver website assets may process technical information, such as IP addresses and browser details, and may use cookies or logs under their own policies and retention settings. Adib does not use this page to build advertising profiles, sell visitor information, or collect email addresses for other purposes.

Avoid including identifying or sensitive information that is unnecessary for feedback. You can replace names and other identifying details with placeholders. Contact the support address above with questions about information held by Adib; use OpenAI’s privacy controls or support for information held by OpenAI.

Essay Mate provides free, automated educational feedback. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by any college or admissions office, and it does not guarantee admission, scholarships, or any particular result.

AI feedback can be inaccurate or unsuitable. Use your own judgment, check important claims, and keep your essay truthful and in your own voice. You are responsible for your final submission and for following each institution’s rules on AI assistance. Only share material you have permission to use.

Using Essay Mate does not transfer ownership of your original writing to Adib. Your use of ChatGPT is also governed by OpenAI’s Terms of Use, including its age and parental-permission requirements.

Essay Mate may be updated or discontinued. Continuous availability and individual responses to support requests are not guaranteed. Nothing on this page limits rights you have under applicable law.
